Scheduled Outage Google Talk

Description: Google has announced they will be replacing their Talk instant messaging service with Google Hangouts on June 26, 2017.

In the event that campus does not have a new contract with Google in place, there will be a service interruption for Google Talk users who exchange instant messages with users outside of the Berkeley domain, e.g. @umich.edu, @gmail.com.

As soon as a new contract is in place, Google Hangouts will be fully enabled and users will be able to exchange messages with users outside of the Berkeley domain.

Unscheduled Outage CAS Authentication

Description: The CalNet Team is reporting an intermittent degradation of service for the CAS server cluster (auth.berkeley.edu), due to load and a known bug in the 5.0.4 server.

A replacement build is being tested and will be pushed to production in an emergency fix as soon as is possible.

CalNet is working with a vendor to help diagnose and manage this process.

Description: UPDATE: Tuesday, May 30, 2017, 3:00pm – After a power outage this morning, IST brought a 13-slot network switch back online at the Banway Building around 12 noon. However, the switch has since gone back down due to un-recoverable damage. IST is working to replace it with new network equipment, with an ETA of May 31, 12 noon to restore service. AirBears2/eduroam WiFi network connectivity is currently available.

The CSS-IT Service Desk is receiving reports of network connectivity issues with wired network connections in the Banway Building.

IST staff are working quickly to identify the source of the outage and to restore services as quickly as possible.

Description: Due to network upgrade to new equipment, the following subnet will experience an outage while being cut over, however this will only affect the north end of the building.

This outage will be on Tuesday, May 30th, 6:00am-7:00am. Although an hour is scheduled, individual hosts will only be down for a few seconds as they are moved from the ancient switch to the shiny new switch.

The entire cut over will likely be about 20 minutes, but an hour is scheduled to allow for unforeseen challenges.
