Description: Network services is planning the retirement of the legacy DNS server ns-master1.berkeley.edu.

This server was designed to be a distribution point for DNS zones administered by groups other than NOS.

Some groups have configured devices to use this server for other purposes (dns cache server in place of ns1.berkeley.edu and ns2.berkeley.edu, authoritative name server in place of adns1.berkeley.edu and adns2.berkeley.edu).

April 3, 2017

  • ns-master1 will stop providing DNS Caching services (please start using ns1.berkeley.edu and ns2.berkeley.edu)
  • ns-master1 will stop hosting / providing information on zones managed by the new NOS infrastructure

What you need to do?

  • If you host your own DNS zone and send data / updates to ns-master1 (128.32.206.17), adns1 (128.32.136.3), and or adns2 (128.32.136.14) immediately open a ticket with hostmaster via the Telcom Catalog https://ucb.service-now.com/navpage.do and we will work with you to review and migrate your service to new infrastructure.
  • If you have any equipment / scripts referencing ns-master1.berkeley.edu for DNS queries / DNS caching please reconfigure it to use ns1.berkeley.edu and ns2.berkeley.edu
  • If you have any tools that require retrieving full zone transfers from ns-master1.berkeley.edu please reconfigure them to use adns1.berkeley.edu, adns2.berkeley.edu, and adns3.berkeley.edu

Description: CENIC engineering will work with remote hands to move a 100G HPR backbone connection from one switch to another.

This is being done for future growth. HPR backbone traffic will be rerouted during this work.

Customers who have been migrated from Direct Connect to Cloud VPN for AWS access will not be impacted by this maintenance.

The server IP address will be changing as a result of this migration.
